Frequently Asked Questions
What is the approximate cost, and can it be paid for in advance?
The cost is $4,500 per Memorial Marker. Families do have the option to pay for a Memorial Marker in advance.
Does this have to be for a fallen veteran?
Veterans Memorial Reef is open to all Veterans who served Honorably. A DD-214 is the primary source document used to verify a veteran’s service.
Are ashes incorporated into the Memorial Markers and then labeled with the name of the deceased on the Memorial Marker?
The veteran’s remains are placed in an aquatic urn, which is interred into a chamber within the Memorial Marker. The Memorial Marker is then placed in the ocean and will become part of an artificial reef structure. The name of the deceased will engraved on a plaque that will be mounted on the Memorial Marker before the launch.
Could the plaque provided by the Veterans Administration be attached to the Memorial Marker, or is it too large?
Our Memorial Marker has been designed to fit a specific plaque that will withstand the marine environment. Each plaque is engraved with the font specified by the VA to ensure size, color, and font are uniform across all Memorial Markers.
Is it possible to have the veteran's spouse interred in the same Memorial Marker?
Spouses may certainly be included alongside their loved ones in the reef. The Memorial Marker is constructed with the ability to contain two sets of cremains.
